Careers at IPIIR cover research and engineering positions, PhD fellowships, postdocs and visiting appointments at an independent institute for applied AI and robotics. We look for people ready to work where academic rigour meets open engineering practice; an ORCID iD is a precondition for every researcher appointment.
How the Institute works
We build the Institute through work rather than declarations. A researcher is expected to bring a clear publication plan, to release open artefacts — code and datasets — to take part in the weekly seminar and the reading group, and to be ready to mentor one or two PhD students.
The Institute is an independent non-profit. There are no commercial education programmes here, no corporate KPIs and no marketing deadlines. The pace is set by the researcher and by the research line.
Salaries are competitive with research labs in Russia, though they do not match big-tech industry levels. What we offer instead: freedom in choosing topics, an academic environment, open publications and no NDA on your own research.
Full-time / Postdoc
A full researcher appointment or a two-year postdoc with the option to extend. Requires a PhD and first-tier publications.
PhD Fellowship
A three-year joint PhD programme with MIPT and ITMO. Stipend plus a research budget.
Visiting Researcher
A short visiting appointment (3–12 months) for affiliated researchers and postdocs.

Whom is the Institute hiring?
IPIIR hires researchers and engineers working on applied AI and robotics: researcher appointments and postdocs, PhD students on joint programmes, and visiting researchers for three to twelve months. Candidates are expected to bring a clear publication plan, to release open artefacts — code and datasets — and to take part in the weekly seminar.
Do I need a doctoral degree?
For researcher appointments and postdocs, yes: a PhD and first-tier publications are required. The PhD fellowship, by contrast, is meant for those who are only beginning a degree. For every other role the requirements are listed on the position page, and an ORCID iD is mandatory for all researcher appointments.
Is remote work possible?
The arrangement is stated in the Location field of each position, which also shows whether remote work is allowed. The Institute is based in Moscow; the weekly seminar and the reading group are part of the research routine, so regular participation is expected, either in person or by video.
What is an IPIIR fellowship?
A fellowship is an application-based programme with a fixed deadline rather than a standing position. The Institute runs three formats: a three-year PhD fellowship with MIPT and ITMO that includes a stipend and a research budget, a two-year postdoc with the option to extend, and a visiting appointment of three to twelve months.
